New employee Stephen Jones arrives at Zephyr Holdings expecting an ordinary corporate job, only to discover that nobody can clearly explain what the company produces or why its departments exist. When a colleague’s doughnut disappears, the petty office mystery encourages Stephen to investigate the larger absurdity surrounding him. His questions lead through opaque policies, arbitrary performance measures, territorial managers, and a hierarchy that seems intensely interested in employee behavior while revealing little about itself. As Stephen tries to understand the organization before it absorbs him, routine workplace frustrations acquire a more unsettling logic. Company is a satirical novel about corporate culture, managerial control, and the consequences of treating human beings as resources to be measured and rearranged.
