About Andy Weir
Andy Weir is an American novelist who began writing science fiction in his twenties and published his work online for years before reaching a wide audience. From 2001 to 2008, he also wrote the webcomic Casey and Andy, centered on fictionalized mad-scientist versions of himself and his friends. His first published novel, The Martian, grew from extensive research into orbital mechanics, Mars, human spaceflight, and botany and was adapted into a 2015 film. That combination of technical detail, direct prose, and dry humor remains central to his fiction. His characters confront danger through calculation, experiment, and improvised engineering, whether one astronaut is stranded on Mars or two scientists from different worlds must learn to communicate in Project Hail Mary. The compact dialogue of The Egg shows that his interest in scientific and metaphysical ideas also extends beyond adventure novels.
